Lake Talquin
Lake Talquin is an 8,850-acre impoundment in the Ochlockonee River. The lake, located about 10 miles (15 km) west of Tallahassee, is south of Interstate 10 and bordered by State Road 20 on the east and State Road 267 on the west. The lake was created by the construction of the C. H. Corn Hydroelectric Generating Station and used for the generation of hydroelectric power. The name Talquin is a contraction of the names of the two cities the lake lies between, Tallahassee and Quincy. The Florida Department of Parks and Wildlife operates the Lake Talquin State Forest Park which includes several tracts of land along the lake’s shoreline. The north shore homes are in Gadsden County, the south shore homes are in Leon County. All of them bask in the natural beauty of the pristine woods and waterways which include world-class bass fishing. Much like Lake Jackson, Lake Talquin has a wide variety of housing options, both existing and new construction, that start in the $150’s and range to the high $700’s.
